Varudu Review

Before the release everyone believed that AlluArjun never makes a bad choice and “Varudu” might serve as a great come back for GunaSekhar,a director who equally shocks the audience with hits and duds. Moreover Heroine is not revealed till the release and a traditional Audio function and full length publicity boosted the curiosity. But the end result is a disaster, proving that mounting up expectations can behave like suicidal boomerang.

Story :

"Kattey kottey Techey" These are 3 words often used to summarize Ramayana very shortly. And same words can be used to describe Gunasekhar's movies too.Gunasekhar initially made Ramayana with kids.No one knows Why he is still cooking same story again and again till now.

Sandeep(Allu Arjun) is happy chap who is blend of being Traditional and Trendy at the same time. He believes in Arranged Marriage and even decides not to look at the bride until the final event of Marriage. Added to it he wishes that his marriage should be performed in a more Traditional manner spanning 16 days, where the Main event is 5 days. But As Luck would have it,Villian Kidnaps her at right time.

What is the reason behind the kidnap? How hero traces and finds her? Leads us to expected ending.

Hell lot of Disappointments:

With the initial few scenes, Audience too gets ready to enjoy and are equally enthusiastic as the relatives who comes to the great and grand wedding. But that excitement no longer persists as GunaSekhar could not make us believe the proceedings and there is no naturality in his belief. The whole 30-40 minutes screen time dedicated for marriage is just ok.

One can say frankly that 5 min song “Alanati Rama Chandrudu” in Murari directed by Krishnavamsi is 100 times better. In between, he literally kills us with a session of outdated proverbs.

Finally Varudu sees the Vadhuvu.Wow this was really really the brilliant scene in the movie.Simply love that scene. The expressions are amazing.Audience could feel the scene just as the lead pair are.

Ok anyway till then though boring lets treat everything as bit variety. But once the Villian Kidnaps the Bride. You slowly slip down into glimpses of Varsham(Gopichand and Trisha scenes) and then into Okkadu(Lead couple Running and Fight in the water) and then Murari(Priests chanting sacred mantras near the fire put up for the Marriage till hero returns) and offcourse Arundathi too.Credit goes to GunaSekharji for actually bringing those movies as it is again.

Illogical scenes and outdated dialogues

When hero says that he is interested in Arranged Marriage, His parents are shocked and force him to go for love marriage. Even his friends behave as if there is something wrong with him. Come on Director sir!! There are lakhs of people still roaming around marriage bureaus to choose the partner.

When Home minister himself wants to help the hero,I wonder what stopped police force from arresting the villain.Gunasekhar should have at least saved their remuneration as the Police have nothing to do except to praise the villain and discourage the hero, whenever camera is focused on them.

Really wonder why hero after an encounter with the villain, invites him again to the final fight at the Kalyana Mandapam??May be to finish off the half completed Marriage song in the same Kalyana Mandapam which is literally crashed before interval!!!

And the Kalyana Mandapam itself is very artificial and set used for climax is heights of artificiality .

Oh my god there is no end to these things..

Actors :

Allu Arjun is anyways good as easy going lad and Revenge taking bridegroom. He marketed his 6-pack all over the flick.

Villian Aarya is a surprise package altogether. His Competing looks and excellent Performance gives him more score. If ”Bommaaaali” from Arundathi still haunts you,Gunasekhar sir picked up a phrase “Kushmandaaa..” this time for the villain. Dubbing given by same dubbing artist Ravi Shanker actually reminds us the SonuSood and his lust for Arundathi which is again not that appealing.

Bhanushree Mehra, the heroine of the movie is finally revealed when all of us along with the Varudu sees her for the first time.Actually hiding her is the good reason for the same. Bhanusree is good though not gorgeous.May be we see her for the first time, Many judgments run in our mind.Even great beauties like Aishwarya and Katrina took 4-5 movies to prove their beauty So this average looking girl definitely need some time to appeal more. She too followed the Samantha and given a nice lip lock to bunny. Oops this might be one reason for Allu arjun to accept this movie.

Suhasini and Ashish Vidyardi as Vardu’s parents,Veteran director Singeetham srinivas as His grandfather are good.Rao Ramesh shows some sparks as inspector.

Naresh,Nazar,Brahmanandam etc are wasted.

Sneha ullal sizzles for a while.

Heroines mother irritates you with frequent mourning’s.

So called 50 families chosen are mere money waste.

Few good things finally for Solace:

Finally if you land up in the theatre, here are some good things to look for.

Songs by Manisharma score pass marks.Visually songs are good.

Allu Arjun understands his fans better,so he utilized every opportunity to show case his dance.I liked bahusa O chanchala and Relare Relare song even more.

Few scenes where

Allu Arjun says “He appreciates his parents married life though they have petty fights now and then”

Scene telling the importance of “Jeelakarra bellam” in marriage can be taken back home.

Especially scene where hero and heroine sees each other for first time...is amazing.

Final Word:

Uff..After so much telling, its up to you again to avoid or choose the movie. If you have nothing to kill the time and are most willing to watch routine and stale flick ,you can do that with bunch of good friends to take frequent brakes and crack tons of jokes.Because so called warned movie is better than unwarned disaster.

Its high time Gunasekhar corrects his repetitive syndrome and It is better at least if he buys a book of Bharatam if at all he could find one more bakra producer and hero.

Rating:

2/5 for choosing noble thought of showcasing marriage.Performance of lead stars especially Aarya,Few scenes and songs here and there.

kumaram, u seem to be more strict these days. Let the audience watch out for some time pass. 2.75 is ok considering the hardwork of varudu team. Though there isnt much credit to be given, art direction is reasonably ok to give such rating.

Was really disappointed with the screenplay maams. They created hype for the movie regarding 5-day marriage ritual.

Forget about showing it properly, atleast they could have mentioned the process they'll follow.

Also, the director only will understand why he's testing the patience of the audience with such a blunders.

As you mentioned, ppl will recollect the memories of those movies and will never forget this movie.

In lot many places, logic is missing. May be as it is an arranged marriage, we should not question about logic :)

To be frank, Krishna vamsi portrayed marriage beautifully in both Murari and Chandamama movies.

Don't know what's wrong with this fellow.

Actual concept of the movie was shown only for 35-40 minutes and the remaining time was dedicated for filling up with commercial elements
